Managing Malignant Colonic Obstruction

Managing Malignant Colonic Obstruction:

A Comprehensive Guide to Colorectal Stenting

Søren Meisner, MD
Endoscopy Unit, Digestive Disease Center, Bispebjerg University Hospital

Based on my personal experience, colonic obstruction may complicate up
to 20% of colorectal cancers and is often a risk factor for poor prognosis.
Emergency surgery can yield a high mortality and morbidity.
This guide describes the endoscopic treatment of malignant colonic
obstruction using The WallFlex™ Colonic Stent. This guide is not intended
to dictate rules for patient management, nor should it be deemed to be
inclusive of all proper methods of care or exclusive of other methods of
care, reasonably directed to gain the appropriate result. Variations in
practice are expected and may be appropriate.
Standards of medical care are specific to all the facts or circumstances
involved in an individual case and may be subject to changes as scientific
knowledge and technology advances, and as practice patterns evolve.
